Tallal Shammout
Born in 1989, lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
In his latest series of works, Shammout explores the boundaries of painting through innovative photographic enlargement techniques. The goal of this approach is to enlarge small-scale, experimental watercolor drawings using specific photographic development techniques and negative processes on photographic paper.
The result of this method presents a fascinating counterpoint to photorealistic painting. Instead of transferring a photographic reference into a painting, Shammout transforms the painted original into an expressive photograph. This process creates a new visual language that engages both traditional painting and photography in a creative dialogue.
